HABLAME DE ESO

This is a very atypical novel whose structure is not in keeping with the tradition division given to such a work. The new school year promises to be very different to the previous one, since the pupils are faced with the prospect of a new educational system called ESO or Compulsory Secondary Education. One of the pupils - the narrator and main character of the story - relates, in each of the independent chapters that go to make up the novel, his experiences during the first year of the new system, doing so in what is a child-like, innocent and at the same time critical fashion. He describes, bit by bit and using his own particular view of things, the world that surrounds him, covering aspects such as the new educational system, the role of tutors, his self-esteem, school, his family, his district, child-adolescent sexuality, the environment, solidarity, tolerance, failure at school and drugs. However, if one had to choose one theme that encompasses all the above, it would be that of communication, in other words, the right we all have to speak, to be informed and to be listened to. The peculiar relation that exists between the main character and his teacher/tutor is at first one of total indifference, later one of admiration, recognition and respect and eventually results in a final reconciliation.
This is a fresh, bang-up-to-date novel that is at once amusing, educational and ironic. Written in a style that is to the liking of young readers, this book will also be of great interest to parents and professionals working in education-related fields.
